Behind-The-Scenes With Our Plant Manager

This month, take a look behind-the-scenes with Ray Tatro, Plant Manager for all IKONICS divisions, including IKONICS Imaging. Ray has been with IKONICS for almost thirty years and is key in helping to make IKONICS Imaging the world leader in sandcarving solutions by ensuring things are running smoothly, quickly, efficiently and safely.

How long have you worked for IKONICS? I've been at IKONICS for 28 years. I like to think I've pretty much seen it all at this point, but people still manage to surprise me.

What is your job at IKONICS? I am the Plant Manager for all IKONICS divisions. I am responsible for planning, organizing, directing and running the day-to-day operations of manufacturing.

What did you do before working at IKONICS? Before working at IKONICS, I put my degrees in chemistry and mathematics to use as a Process Engineer working with process instrumentation and control.

What are your hobbies outside of work? My summers are spent on the golf course and winters are spent ice fishing on local lakes around Duluth.

What was the best concert you ever attended? The best concert I've ever been to was Laura Velvet & The Bookhouse Boys at the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival in Superior, WI. My daughter, Maija Tatro, sings for the group.

What was your last vacation? My last vacation was with my son. We went to Alaska for a halibut and salmon fishing trip.
