Behind-The-Scenes With The Doctor

IKONICS Imaging is more than just sandcarvers and photoresist film. We have an entire team dedicated to bringing you the best sandcarving products on the market. This month, take a look behind-the-scenes with Darin Jones, Technical Sales Specialist for our Midwest region. Darin is also the Training Specialist for IKONICS Imaging for all regions.

Darin is just one of the many team members who helps to make IKONICS Imaging the world leader in sandcarving solutions. Darin was the 2018 Salesperson of the Year and recently started his own Instagram account to share his sandcarving adventures. Follow him at @dr.finegrit on Instagram.

How long have you worked for IKONICS? I have worked for IKONICS for 14 years.

What is your job at IKONICS? I am the Training Specialist for IKONICS Imaging, as well as the Technical Sales Specialist for our Midwest region. As the Training Specialist I teach sandcarving schools and seminars across the country. I also offer on-site support for our customers.

What did you do before working at IKONICS? Before working at IKONICS, I worked at Menards as a manager for 7 years in a wide variety of departments. I also worked at Sears for 5 years in sales.

What are your hobbies outside of work? We have three children. Between sports, plays and concerts their extracurricular activities keep us busy! Some may say it is “keeping up with the Joneses’” but I look at it as a great opportunity to stay in tune with my family's interests.

What was the best concert you ever attended? I was a stagehand for a variety of 70’s and 80’s rock bands, but the best concert I have ever attended was Moondance Jam in Walker, MN.

Can you play any instruments? I played the trumpet/trombone in early middle school. It was a trombone but had 3 keys on it like a trumpet. Presently, I like to play the piano when I am at home with my family or play a few familiar tunes on business trips when I find one available.

What’s the strangest talent you have? I can remember the names of customers, friends, and even sometimes a bartender years later. It could be 10 plus years since I have last spoke to this person but I still remember some details from our last conversation. You might say it’s a gift... and a curse.

What's the last book you read? I read a lot of magazines. I read A&E Magazine and Insights Magazine often for tips and tricks within our great industry. Sort of a kiss up, but true! :)
