How To Purge Your CrystalBlast Sandcarving Machine

Have you ever been blasting a glass award or other substrate and all of a sudden there is no abrasive coming out of the nozzle? Or maybe some abrasive is coming out but it's mostly air. The first thing we ask when a customer calls in about problems with abrasive and air flow is, "When is the last time you purged your blast cabinet?"

Clogged Blast Cabinet

When you are sandcarving, pieces of your photoresist film or bits of your substrate – such as glass, rock, wood, etc. can get into your pressure pot and cause your machine or nozzle to clog up. A clogged machine can be frustrating. Stop the frustration by purging your blast cabinet and following a proper machine maintenance schedule.

You should be purging your CrystalBlast Sandcarving machine every one to three months to keep the air flow consistent and flush out any possible debris that may have dropped down into the abrasive pressure pot. Don't wait until it's too late... purge your sandcarver today!

How To Purge Your CrystalBlast Sandcarver

Purging your CrystalBlast Sandcarver is quick and easy. Purging your machine is important so debris doesn't clog your nozzle when you are sandcarving and cause delays in your production. In the video above, Mike VanOvermeiren from IKONICS Imaging shows you the four easy steps to purge your CrystalBlast blast cabinet in order to keep your machine running in tiptop shape.

1. Remove Nozzle: Remove the nozzle from the hose.

2. Adjust Choke Valve: Stop abrasive from going through the machine by pushing the choke valve away from you. This will ensure that 100% air is blowing through the machine.

3. Adjust Pressure: Turn the pressure up to 55-60 PSI.

4. Blow Air Through Hose: Step on the foot pedal and keep your foot on the pedal until it is all air coming through the hose without any abrasive or debris.

Note: If you are having a hard time removing the nozzle from the hose, you may have abrasive stuck in the nozzle. Try turning the nozzle after you push it in to loosen the abrasive. You may need to cut the hose if you can't get the nozzle off.
